Genevieve Alvilda Florence Schenck

Russell: Genevieve Schenck, age 93,formerly of Russell, passed away at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 16th at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Genevieve Alvilda Florence Schenck was born to parents Louis and Gurina (Hanson) Hill on May 15, 1919 at Balaton, Minnesota. She was baptized on August 10, 1919 and confirmed on May 28, 1933 at the Opdal Lutheran Church in Florence. She attended school District 100 in Lyon County and went on to attend Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
On December 7, 1938, Genevive was united in marriage to Carrol M. Schenck at her parents’ home in Balaton. They lived in Balaton for a few years. Then they moved to California in 1941 where she worked in the shipyards during World War II. They returned to Minnesota and farmed for a few years and then moved to Russell where she was the head cook at the Russell School for 18 years. Carrol passed away on April 7, 1994 and then Genevieve moved to the Marshall Square Apartments. She was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church while living in Russell and following her move to Marshall joined the First Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Priscilla Circle.
Genevieve passed away at St. Gertrude’s Health Care Center in Shakopee on Tuesday, February 12,2013. She had reached the age of 93 years, 8 months and 25 days.
She is survived by her three sons, Eugene, Lyle and Dennis; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carrol; 11 brothers and sisters; and a great grandson.
The love of her life was doing things with and for her family and being with neighbors. Other enjoyments were spending time at the Marshall Area Adult Center, playing Bingo and going on short trips.
