Amber Schmugge

Amber Schmugge, age 41, of Marshall, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. A luncheon for attendees will follow the service in the church basement. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. A private interment will be at a later date in the Marshall Cemetery.

Amber Danielle Schmugge was born on July 12, 1983, in Hayward, California to Jon and Karen (Floor) Schmugge. She was baptized in Fremont, California, and moved to Marshall as an infant. She was confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Amber attended Samuel Lutheran School and Marshall High School, class of 2001, where she was active in marching band, choir, and speech. Amber graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, in 2005 and went on to receive a Masters degree from the University of MN Duluth and a second Masters from the University of Washington Seattle in 2017.

Amber was a passionate crafter and was well known for her handmade Christmas and birthday presents, particularly for her nieces and nephews. She was an avid reader and loved Marvel movies and comics. She was an excellent photographer and loved to do needlepoint, sewing and quilting.

Amber is survived by her parents, Jon and Karen Schmugge of Marshall; five siblings, Brad Schmugge of Duluth, MN, Jonathan (Jessenia) Schmugge of Rochester, MN, Christianne (TJ) Lewis of Blaine, MN, Nicole (Nathaniel) Council of Pampa, TX, and Kimberly Schmugge of Austin, MN; nieces and nephews, Lex Wencl, Billy (Yana) Wencl, Catherine Lewis (Alex Schroedsen), Faye Lewis and Steven Lewis. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her beloved cat, Riley.

Amber died at the age of 41 years, 6 months, and 25 days. Blessed be her memory.
