Bernice “Bea” Wewetzer, age 91, of Marshall, Minnesota, died peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Memorial Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, also at the church. Private Interment will be at a later date in the Marshall Cemetery.
Bernice Emma Williams was born on May 14, 1933, in Jackson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Clifford and Edla (Haberman) Williams. Bea grew up on the family farm with siblings: Carl, Wilma, Thelma, Roberta, and Maxine. She attended school in Jackson, Minnesota, in a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade and then she graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1951. Bea went on to continue her education at Mankato College, graduating there with a degree in education.
Following a phone interview, Bea was hired immediately and started teaching in the fall of 1955 at the Eastside School in Marshall, Minnesota. Two years later she was united in marriage to Lewis E. Wewetzer on April 13, 1957. The couple made their home on the family farm West of Marshall and raised five boys: Dean, Randy, Mike, Richard, and Jeff. The couple shared over 50 years together prior to Lewis’ death in 2007.
Bea was a proud member of first Lutheran Church in Marshall and was involved with many church activities and Bea grew close to many members of her church family. She served on the kitchen committee and quilting team for many years. Bea retired from teaching in 1994, after educating children for 30 years.
Bea also loved life on her farm where she was able to spend time in her flower garden, growing vegetables, hunting, fishing, and making many great memories with her family – especially hosting the annual Christmas party. Bea often recalled working alongside her husband and enjoying doing chores on the farm. She moved from the farm into Hill Street Place in Marshall in the fall of 2014.
Bea Wewetzer died on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in Marshall, Minnesota. She reached the age of 91 years, 4 months, and 26 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her 5 sons, Dean Wewetzer of Homer, AK, Randy (and Sima) Wewetzer of Marshall, Mike Wewetzer of Lynd, Richard (and Diana) Wewetzer of Alexandria, OH, Jeffrey (and Jamie) Wewetzer of Franklin, TN; 5 grandsons, Christopher Wewetzer, Jesse Wewetzer, Kyle Wewetzer, Nathan Wewetzer, Nicholas Wewetzer; great-grandchildren, Asher, Adelaide, Titus, Eliza, James; sister, Maxine Jenkins of North Carolina; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wewetzer; parents, Clifford and Elda Williams; siblings, Wilma Vachuska, Carl Williams, Thelma Dunker, and Roberta Nigon.
