Marshall: Bertha Ethel Cross, age 99, of Watertown, MN, formerly of Marshall, passed away at the Elim Nursing Home in Watertown on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Albright United Methodist Church in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be from one hour prior to the service, at the church. The Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be submitted at www.hamiltonfh.com
Bertha Ethel Paradis was born to parents Peter and Melinda (Meyer) Paradis on May 2, 1910, in Lucas Township, Minnesota. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1928.
Bertha was united in marriage on September 3, 1928 to Marvin Cross. They lived in Cottonwood, Russell, and Marshall for many years. Marvin passed away in 1982. She was a resident of Hill Street Place for many years. Bertha moved to the Elim Care and Rehab Center about 2 years ago to be closer to her children.
She was a proud member of the Albright United Methodist Church in Marshall, proud to be its oldest and longest serving member. She loved spending summers at the cottage on Lake Koronis. Her other enjoyments in life included playing bridge and 500, traveling in the motor home, group tours, and spending time with family and friends. She was also a part of the Women’s Society and Circle as well as the Marshall Senior Center. Bertha was a very proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by three children, Marvin Cross of Bloomington, IL, Gerald (and Beth) Cross of Blacksburg, VA, and Gloria (and Lewis) Ely of Mound; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Merlin; brother, Walter Paradis; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; and a daughter-in-law.
Memorials may be directed to Albright United Methodist Church in Marshall or the Marshall Senior Center.
