Betty Mae Richters

Island Lake Township: Betty M. Richters, age 81, formerly of Russell, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Waconia Good Samaritan Care Center in Waconia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Island Lake Township. Interment will take place in the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Betty Mae Wilmes, the daughter of Frank and Millie (Sparks) Wimes was born on May 15, 1929 in Lincoln County, Minnesota. Betty was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. On October 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward “Bud” Richters at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Betty worked beside Bud on the farm, dedicated her life to her family as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She worked for Schwans Sales for 11 years after Bud and her retired from farming. She served her church throughout her entire life and was also a member of the Russell Lions and the West Side Club. Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking, dancing and spending time with her family and friends. She was a caregiver all of her life. Betty is survived by her daughters, Debora Dvorak of Carver and Diane Pogatchnik of Breeze Point; Debora’s family, Michael (husband) and grandchildren, Amie, Jackie, Andrea, and Christian all from Carver; and sister-in-laws, Marilyn Richters, Arlene Wilmes and Maxine Wilmes.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Bud; her parents, Frank and Millie Wilmes, three brothers, Merl, Earl and Todd; sister-in-law, Edna Wilmes; nephews, Nennis Wilmes and Jerry Pipke; and grandson, Curtis Pogatchnik.
