Betty J. Westphal, age 62, of Amiret, died Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Burial will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday, at the church.
Betty Jean Swan was born March 30, 1945 in Tracy, Minnesota to Hilding and Blanche (Kadolph) Swan. She was baptized and confirmed at the Sillerud Lutheran Church. She attended the Balaton schools and graduated from Balaton high School in 1963. She then went on to the Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Betty then worked at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
On August 31, 1968, Betty was united in marriage to Don Westphal at Sillerud Lutheran Church and they lived in rural Amiret. Betty was a home maker until 1994 when she started working at the Best Western hotel in Marshall. She retired in 2006.
Betty enjoyed life, she taught Sunday School, was a member of the church circle, and a member of the extension club. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching TV and movies, shopping, her grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends.
Betty is survived by her husband Don of rural Amiret; children, Lynn (and Rick) Miller of rural Garvin, Todd Westphal of Brookings, SD, and Scott Westphal of Brookings, SD; grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica Miller of rural Garvin; mother, Blanche Swan of Tracy; and sister, Phyllis (and Gary) Hansen of Tracy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hilding Swan.
