Robert Ernest Reiter was born to Ernest and Irene (Henkel) Reiter on October 12, 1931, in Tracy, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church and then Confirmed at the Catholic Church in Tracy. He attended school in Tracy and worked with his father, hauling ice starting at age 14. After school, Bob was active in the United States Army National Guard. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned home to work at the Co-Op Gas Station and began driving for Tracy Bottling Works.
August 28, 1954, Bob was united in marriage to Lorraine Gladis in Wilno, Minnesota. They made their home in Tracy until the tornado in 1968. They rebuilt but then in 1977 decided to move the family to their dream spot on Lake Shetek. The couple had a daughter, Dawn, and shared nearly 65 years of marriage together. Bob often was heard bragging that he had snagged the most beautiful woman around.
Bob was a true character. He was one who knew a lot about everything, you just had to ask him. Bob was always on the go – often too fast – to the point where that family and close friends have “kept him alive as long as possible.” When Bob did sit down it was usually to watch Moses in the 10 Commandments movie (again). He loved life, sought adventure, and gravitated to the spotlight. He loved country music and was the ringleader and guitar player in the local band, “Trailblazers.” He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and snowmobiles. Bob was a past member of the Snow Snipers Snowmobile Club, member of the Currie American Legion, and over 50 years ago he helped found the Saratoga Sportsman Club outside Amiret.
Robert E. Reiter died at the lake – where he always wanted to be – on May 24, 2019. He had reached the age of 87 years, 7 month, and 12 days. Blessed be his memory.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Reiter of Lake Shetek; daughter, Dawn Lee of Lake Shetek; grandchildren, Aaron (and Andrea) Hess of Marshall, Gabbrielle (and Kyle) Ritter of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren, Aiden Hess, Mickey Hess; his pet miniature dachshund, Molly; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Irene Reiter, and brother-in-law, Wayne Gullickson.
