Marshall: Debra Jean Griebel, age 60, of Marshall, formerly of Pipestone, passed away as the result of a two vehicle accident near Clara City on Thursday, December 5, 2013. Celebration of Deb’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 10th at Marshall Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Debra Jean Griebel was born on May 14, 1953 at the Pipestone County Hospital to Barney and Ethel (Rickerman) Griebel. She was confirmed at Peace United Methodist Church. Deb attended school K through 12 in Pipestone, graduating in 1971. She furthered her education at the University of Minnesota, where she received a BA degree in accounting in only three years in 1974. In 1977, she received her CPA certification and became a member of the Minnesota Society of CPAs. Her first accounting job was in Cedar Falls, IA, but she eventually relocated to Marshall and joined the Gold Carlson and Minehart Accounting firm. Deb then decided to become self-employed when she established her own business - Griebel Certified Public Accountant. During this time, Deb thoroughly enjoyed serving as a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants – AICPA. She was also an active arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority – FINCA and a board member of the National Association of Securities Dealers Board of Arbitrators. Deb accepted Christ as her Savior on January 24, 1999 and subsequently was baptized at Plum Creek Park on August 8, the same year. Living out her faith, Deb was an active member of the Marshall Evangelical Free Church, serving in many capacities, which included leadership as a deaconess, serving and assisting many needs of the church, and participating in church mission trips to Lima, Peru and the Dominican Republic. She had a servant’s heart and helped with innumerable needs ministering with joy to many people both in the church and the community. Deb loved the outdoors enjoying long walks and was an avid biker. She made regular trips to Colorado to enjoy God’s creation and helping with other bicycling groups. Deb also enjoyed the Native heritage of the Pipestone area and collected native Pipestone creations. Deb passed away on Thursday, December 5th as the result of an auto accident. She is survived by her brother, Jim (and Paula) Griebel of Valley Springs, SD and their children, Gretchen (and Jessie) Otterblad of Chicago, IL, Ryan (and Lisa) Griebel of Travis City, MI, brother, Gary (and Karen) Griebel, and their children, Jeffery (and Lori) Griebel of Pipestone, Mark (and Jodee) Griebel of Pipestone and Paul (and Ellen) Griebel of Marshall; and her twin sister, Deeann Griebel of Tempe, AZ.
