Delores Garland, age 63, of Marshall, passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday, March 27, 2009. A memorial service will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening, April 2, 2009. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
Delores Ann Jackson was born on September 24, 1945 in Lyon County, Minnesota, to Lynn and Gladys (Busse). She attended school in Marshall. She was married to John Garland and had one son, David.
Delores worked at Weiner Memorial Hospital before becoming a social worker at Lincoln Lyon Murray Human Services. She retired in April of 2000 after 35 years with the county. In 1999, she was given the Minnesota Financial Worker of the Year Award.
Delores’ enjoyments in life included camping, music, reading, gardening (especially her Moon Flowers), watching birds and squirrels, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of MSSA, PEPSA, the Eagles Auxiliary, and Marshall Area Senior Center.
Delores passed away on March 27, 2009 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 63 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
She is survived by her son, David (and Doreen) Garland of Marshall; very special friend, Chester Miller of Marshall; one step-granddaughter; brother, Dwight (and Mary Ann) Jackson of Florence, Oregon; and many friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dale.
