Delores Emma Hook

Delores Hook, age 80, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Grace First Parish in Russell, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Russell Cemetery. Attendees are then invited to a reception at the Russell Community Center. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A Prayer Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., at the church.

Delores Emma Kalass was born on March 31, 1941, in Slayton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Gertrude (Veldhuizen) Kalass. Delores grew up in the Slayton area and was baptized and confirmed at Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin, Minnesota. She attended country school and spent a couple years at the Slayton High School where she met Mr. Ronald Hook.

On October 26, 1957, Delores and Ron were married in Garvin, Minnesota. They made their home in Willmar, Redwood Falls, and Slayton before moving to Gary, South Dakota. Their growing family added 6 children and the couple moved back the Russell, Minnesota in 1977. Delores was a loving homemaker and mother while helping on the farm, gardening, and doing daycare. She also worked for Swift’s in the 1970s for a number of years.

Delores was very involved in her church, serving on the Ladies’ Aide, in the choir, and in several bible studies. She was also active in the community, participating in softball and bowling leagues and was proud to be the local Avon Lady. Her other enjoyments included traveling, camping, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Delores Hook died on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She reached the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 3 days. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by five children, Sherlyn (and Bruce) Brown of Russell, David (and Kim) Hook of Russell, Cyndi Hook of Russell, Daryl (and Cheryl) Hook of Tyler, James (and Amy) Hook of Griswold, IA; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hook of Russell; eleven grandchildren, Randy (and Chrissy) Hook, Stacie (and Chad) Nuese, Nathan Brown (and Samantha Halverson), Renee (and Troy) Lehmann, Josh (and Samantha) Hook, Zac (and Marissa) Hook, Matt (and Jaci) Hook, Derek Hook (and Lizzy Geier), Roni Hook, Hogan Hook, Nicole (Matt) Heidecker; 19 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Harold (and Marian) Kalass of Cottonwood, Gary (and Barb) Kalass of Balaton, Leroy (and Beth) Kalass of Slayton; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Delores is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Gertrude Kalass; husband, Ronald Hook; son, Roger Hook; sister-in-law, Sandy Hauger; brother-in-law, Russell Hauger; and a nephew, Bryce Kalass.
