Services for Delva Jackson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Open Door Assembly of God Church in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
Delva was born in Sioux Falls, SD to Omar Smith and Della (Olson) Smith. As a young child, she was baptized in the Christian faith in Ellis, SD. She attended school in rural Sioux Falls and graduated from Brookings High School in 1946. Delva received her teaching certificate from General Beadle College in Madison, SD. In July 1948, she married Morris Jackson at the Methodist Church in Brookings, SD.
Delva taught at rural schools in Brookings and Day Counties, South Dakota. They lived in Webster, Flandreau and Winner, South Dakota prior to moving to Marshall, MN in 1958. During the 1970’s and early 1980’s, she worked part time for Carrow’s Cleaners and the Ramada Inn.
Delva worshipped at Christ United Presbyterian Church for over twenty years. The last thirty years she was a member of the Open Door Assembly of God Church in Marshall. She served as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. She enjoyed participating in adult Sunday school.
November 2012, Delva moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to family.
Survivors include Jerri (Vince) Hartmann of Seale, Al; Brent (Donna) Jackson of Brandon, SD; Brad (Taryn Gemelke) of Ghent; and Blair (Sandra) Jackson of Sioux Falls. Her six grandchildren include: Eric Sevatson, Daniel Sevatson, Sarah Reimers, Bryan Jackson, Brittany Jackson and Seth Jackson. She is survived by her brother Gordon (Ruth) Smith.
Delva was preceded in death by her husband Morris in 1985; parents Omar and Della Smith; brothers Verlyn and Melvin; and sisters Verda Bortnem and Wanda Ray.
Family requests memorials be directed to Open Door Assembly of God Church in Marshall, MN.
