Diane Elizabeth Wartner was born on December 8, 1946, to Henry and Lucille (Hansen) Ohl in Tyler, Minnesota. Diane grew up in the rural Tyler area, graduating from Tyler Public School in 1964.
On October 23, 1965, Diane was united in marriage to Valgene “Val” Wartner at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler. The couple began their married life in Marshall, Minnesota. She was employed at the USDA Lyon County ASCS Office from 1964 to 1972. In August of 1967, the couple moved to Russell, Minnesota, where they would raise their family and live over the next 40-some years. Diane was a member of ladies' groups, she served as treasurer of the church council, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School. She continued her church involvement at Living Word, again with the ladies' groups and serving on various church committees.
