Donald Edblom, age 65, of Marshall, Minnesota, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his home. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, at the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday, at the church.
Donald Leroy Edblom was born October 17, 1956, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the son of Marvin and Roxanne (Hinkle) Edblom. He grew up in Beresford, South Dakota, and then moved with his family to a farm outside Chokio, Minnesota. He was baptized as an infant at the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in Beresford (SD) and was later confirmed in his youth at the Pepperton Methodist Church in rural Alberta (MN). Don graduated from the Chokio-Alberta High School with the class of 1974. He went on to earn his associates degree in accounting from the Granite Falls Vo-Tech Institute in 1976.
On March 20, 1976, Don was united in marriage to Linda Senn at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lamberton, Minnesota. The couple has called Marshall home ever since. Don worked for 45 years at Alter Metal Recycling where he served in nearly every role, finishing as manager before his retirement this past November.
Don was a dedicated civic leader, serving on many city boards and commissions, and he was a past member of the Marshall City Council for eight years. Don was recently re-elected to represent Marshall’s ward one. Don was also active in the DFL political party. Don's enjoyments in life included following all Minnesota sports teams, golfing, geography and math, road trips and campfires - particularly in the Black Hills. He was involved at the Breezy Shores Resort in Detroit Lakes where he served on the board and enjoyed many fishing trips there. In his downtime, Don could often be found enjoying a Jack and Coke or a good cigar.
Donald Edblom died peacefully on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at his home in Marshall. He had reached the age of 65 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Edblom of Marshall; children, Steve Edblom of Orange City, IA, Kim Edblom of Sioux Falls, SD; step-mother, Laverne Edblom of Alexandria; 3 grandchildren, Justin (and Shelby) Sjaarda, Jennie (and Ryan) Knie, Tyler Sjaarda; 4 great-grandchildren, Micah, Kenzie, McKenna, Kennedi; brother, David (and Pam) Edblom of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Susan (and Dan) Jost of Alexandria; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Roxanne Edblom; nephew, Matthew Edblom; niece, Jenny Jenkins; and brother-in-law, Roy Senn.
