Dorothy Valentine Bossuyt was born on November 16, 1930, to Alphonse and Irma (Cooreman) Bossuyt in Tracy, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her youth as the family moved around Lyon County. The family lived and farmed in Taunton and Vesta before settling outside Milroy. Dorothy attended county school and then graduated from Milroy High School in 1949.
On September 20, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ronald K. Swedzinski at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Milroy. The couple began their married life on the farm near Minneota, Lincoln County, Minnesota where she lived for the next 68 years. The couple raised 6 children and shared over 56 years of marriage prior to Ronnie's death in 2005. Dorothy was a loving mother and homemaker and worked part-time as a land surveyor for the United States Department of Agriculture.
Dorothy was a humble, caring, hard-working, and prayerful woman who always put her family first. She had an affinity for all animals and could name most birds or trees in the area. Dorothy was active in several bible studies and the local food co-op. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, photography, dancing, embroidery, and playing Bingo. Dorothy made a point to read her Bible every day since becoming a Christian in 1976, and her strong faith passed on to her loving family.
Dorothy prayed daily, for all to become born again and believe that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. John 3:1-36.
