Doug Robbins, age 75, of Marshall, Minnesota, died under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family on Monday, May 20, 2024, at his home in Marshall. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. next Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will be in the Marshall Cemetery, followed by a reception for attendees back at the church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a prayer service and time to share memories at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will then continue just prior to his celebration, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.
Douglas James Robbins was born on February 14, 1949, in Tracy, Minnesota. He was the son of Raymond and Irene (Moon) Robbins. Doug was baptized at First Baptist Church in Marshall. He attended school in Tracy, graduating with the high school class of 1967 and then went on to further his education at the Vocational College in Canby where he graduated in 1969, having studied auto mechanics.
On August 9, 1969, Doug was united in marriage to Jeanine Carlson at First Baptist. The couple made their home in Marshall and raised three children: Tamara, Jeana, and John. Doug worked for over 33 years as a mechanic for the Lyon County Highway Department prior to his retirement in 2008.
Doug always kept his faith a priority in his life and focused on the good and simple things that this world provided. He was a longtime Deacon of his church and also served on the Kids For Truth ministry. His other enjoyments included hunting, fishing, trips to Canada, and time spent with friends. His family, which he commonly referred to as a gift from God, was always put first as highlighted during holiday celebrations with his extended family and Doug could often be found at sporting events in support of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doug Robbins died peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Marshall, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 6 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanine Robbins of Marshall; 3 children, Tamara (and Don) Burns of Pomona, MO, Jeana (and Keith) Portner of Sioux Falls, SD, John (and Renae) Robbins of Sioux Falls, SD; 10 grandchildren, Victoria Sletten, Jordan (and Haley) Sletten, Justin Sletten, Dakota Sletten, Austin Portner, Carter Portner, Whitney Portner, Madisyn Portner, Jadyn Robbins, Alexa Robbins; brother, Richard (and Donna) Robbins of Des Moines, IA; 5 great-grandchildren, Kadrin Aiton, Havyn Aiton, Rohen Aiton, Jameson Robbins, Syrilla Sletten; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene Robbins; parents-in-law, Harold and Arlene Carlson; great-grandson, Liran Aiton; niece, Jill Scher, brothers-in-law, Wayne VanLerberghe, Donald Trigg; and a sister-in-law, Anita Carlson.
