Douglas Towne, age 65, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Marshall Efree Church in Marshall, Minnesota. A luncheon for attendees will follow in the church basement. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his celebration, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, also at the church.
Douglas Dean Towne was born on January 24, 1959, in Tracy, Minnesota. He was the son of Howard and Doris (Watkins) Towne. Douglas was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth. He and his family moved frequently, living in Canby, St. Leo, Porter, and Marshall. They also moved to Iowa for a time and Kansas, where Douglas graduated from St. Francis High School in 1978. Shortly thereafter he returned to Minnesota where he met Lori Baas.
Doug and Lori were united in marriage on March 13, 1982, at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall. They raised three children and after a brief separation they reunited and were married again on October 23, 1999.
Douglas worked a variety of jobs including Mikes Cafe, Godfather's Pizza, newspaper delivery for the Marshall Independent and StarTribune, the Schwan's food company, Marshall Middle School, Goodwill, and Menards. He eventually retired in 2019. Doug was known to be a somewhat stubborn man and liked things his way. He enjoyed attending Boxcar Days in Tracy every year and socialized frequently at various church functions. He liked his morning coffee with friends and could often be found participating in a game of Bingo.
Doug died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He reached the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 10 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Towne of Marshall; son, Michael Towne of Marshall; grandchildren, Emily and Shay Moran; brothers, Kendall Towne of Marshall, Bryan (Shari) Towne of Balaton; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Donna & Vernon Bees; daughters, Elizabeth and Crystal Towne; granddaughter, Emily Towne; and a brother, Roy Towne.
