On August 30, 1951, Edward was united in marriage to Violet Matthews at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. Edward then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Edward was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall and served two terms on the church council. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 113, VFW Post 742, where he served as commander, Military Order of the Cooties, and the DAV. Edward was an active volunteer and board member at the Senior Center in Marshall.

His other enjoyments in life included time spent at the cabin on Nest Lake in Spicer, fishing and giving pontoon rides, VFW Baseball, playing cards, and spending time with the family he loved.
