Marshall: Ella DeVries, age 92, of Marshall, passed away at the Morningside Heights Care Center on Monday, July 2, 2007. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 6, 2007 at Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Balaton. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday until the time of the service.
Ella Emma DeVries was born Oscar, Sr., and Ella (Dahlquist) Buchert on July 20,1914 in Russell, Minnesota.
On March 6, 1940, Ella was united in marriage to Johannes DeVries at the Marshall courthouse. Ella was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, active in teaching and preaching. Other enjoyments were gardening, flowers, baking bread and pies, making sugar and cinnamon treats out of the leftover pie crusts, making heavenly cinnamon caramel rolls, pancake men, and doughnuts. Whenever there was extra money, she gave the kids a nickle for DQ ice cream. She loved spending time with family and friends. She was baptized in 1965.
Ella passed at the Morningside Heights Care Center on Monday, July 2, 2007. She reached the age 92 years, 11 months and 12 days.
She is survived by four children, Marlis Gladis of Tracy, Mavis (and Ken) Schultz of Marshall, Roger (and Marlyn) DeVries of Marshall, and Dean (and Sandra) DeVries of Story City, IA; 13 grandchildren, Jerry Steven Gladis, Jeffery Gladis, Jody Gladis, Shannon Dorenkamper, Rebecca Schultz, Brian Schultz, Deidre Scherr, Kristi Nichols, Kelly Caron, Mike DeVries, Travis DeVries, Caryn DeVries, and Kalie DeVries; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; 2 brothers, Ross Buchert and Warren Buchert; and special friends, Lorraine Rensink, Vivian J. Jurnek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johannes on February 27, 2000, a son in 1994, 3 brother, 2 half-sisters, and 2 half-brothers.
