Ella Evelyn Burt Moat was born on September 21, 1928, in Russell, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edward and Pearl (Clow) Burt. Ella grew up in Russell and after graduating high school, she worked as a typist for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Minneapolis. Ella then moved back to Russell where she worked for the L. P. Hansen Insurance Agency for many years.
On September 24, 1948, Ella was united in marriage to Donald Moat at the Presbyterian Church in Russell. They began farming outside of Russell. After they moved their house into Marshall in 1956, Ella began devoting her life to the church, working at both the Christ United Presbyterian Church and Wesley United Methodist Church for many years.
Ella’s love of her life was her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She taught the three-year-old class at Christ United Presbyterian’s Sunday school program for over 70 years and loved each and every one of her students. Ella’s other enjoyments included tidying up the house, entertaining, playing cards, and helping out anywhere she could around the church. During the season you could often find her sitting in front of the TV cheering on (and sometimes booing) the Minnesota Twins baseball team.
Ella Moat died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, in Marshall, Minnesota. She had reached the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 3 days. She was truly loved by her family and many friends and will be dearly missed. Blessed be her memory.
