Emilie Krause, age 90, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Services are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Following a reception for attendees, interment will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her celebration, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, also at the funeral home.
Emilie Rose Krause was born March 8, 1934, on a farm in Limestone Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. She was the youngest of 10 children born to Frank and Anna (Matejka) Kudrna. Emilie was baptized and confirmed at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minnesota. She graduated from District 47 grade school and then the Ivanhoe High School. Emilie played the piano for the Girl's Chorus and the Mixer Chorus and also played drums in the local band.
After graduating from high school, Emilie worked as a secretary, receptionist, and bookkeeper for a certified public accounting firm in Minneapolis for 12 years. She then worked in the library at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall for 4 years before serving as a word processing operator at the university for 16 additional years.
Emilie was united in marriage to Robert Vokoum in 1973 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Marshall where she has been a member there ever since. The couple shared 17 years of marriage prior to Robert's death in 1990. Emilie was again united in marriage to Chester “Mike” Krause in 1996 the couple lived on Lake Shetek and spent winters in Texas. They formally moved to Marshall in 2004 and spent 15 years of marriage together prior to Mike’s death in 2011.
Emilie was an incredibly sweet person and always intentional about being friendly to others. She enjoyed hosting family and entertaining visitors and was always mindful of those around her. Her other enjoyments in life included reading, dancing, traveling, and trying her luck at the occasional slot machine.
Emilie died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She had reached the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 3 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Delores Kudrna; many nieces and nephews; and close friend, Jerry Stenerson of Russell.
Emilie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Kudrna; brothers, Leo, Frank, John, Emil, George; sisters, Leona Jerzak, Frances Rustad, Georgia Killius, and an infant sister, Johanna.
