Floyd Roy Sowden, age 78, of Lynd, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at the Prairie Home Hospice – McLaughlin House in Marshall.
Memorial Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2020, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall with Rev. James Stefanic officiating. Following a public reception, interment will be in the Hope Cemetery in Tyler, Minnesota. Visitation will be held before the service, from 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m., on Friday, July 17, also at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall. Active Urn Bearers will be his grandsons, Cody Sowden, Tyler Sowden, Brandon Van Overbeke, and Cameron Van Overbeke. Honorary Urn Bearers will be his granddaughters, Lacey Sowden, and Anna Sowden.
Occupancy limits and social distancing must be observed throughout all services.
Floyd Roy Sowden was born to the late Roy and Viola (Petersen) Sowden on October 21, 1941 in Tyler, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Lake Benton First English Lutheran Church. Floyd was a 1959 High School Graduate of Lake Benton Country School. On August 20, 1966, Floyd was united in marriage to Judy Nielsen at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tyler, Minnesota. Together, they enjoyed 53 wonderful years, and raised 3 children, Lonny, Jerry, and Laurie.
In his free time, Floyd enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling, tinkering in the garage, polishing his truck, riding horses, watching John Wayne, listening to Johnny Cash, taking trips to Branson, MO, and John Deere Tractors.
Floyd passed away on July 14, 2020, at the age of 78 years 9 months, and 23 days. Blessed be his memory.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Judy Sowden of Lynd; children, Lonny (Wanda) Sowden of Marshall, Jerry (Cathy) Sowden of Oil City, PA, and Laurie (Scott) Van Overbeke of Marshall; grandchildren, Lacey Sowden of Marshall, Cody (Alex) Sowden of Tyler, Tyler Sowden of Milroy, Anna Sowden of Oil City, PA, Brandon Van Overbeke of Marshall, and Cameron Van Overbeke of Hendricks; great-grandson, Everett Sowden; sister, Diana (Charles) Anderson of Burnsville; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lana Smith, baby brother James Sowden, and many aunts and uncles.
