George Byron Stencel

August 4, 1943 — April 24, 2008

George Stencel, age 64, of Marshall, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will he held on Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
George Byron Stencel was born on August 4, 1943 on the farm in Blue Earth County, near Minnesota Lake, to George A. & Mildred (Bruckhoff) Stencel. He was baptized and received first communion at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1961 and then attended Junior Accounting Class at Mankato Commercial College in Mankato. George was employed at Gold & Carlson from 1962 through 1968; then at Marshall Meats, Marshall Produce, and Cornbelt Foods through 1988; and worked for Minehart, McKee & Associates from 1988 to 2008.
On August 12, 1972, George was united in marriage to Faye Horn at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda, Minnesota. To this union was born one daughter, Pamela, and one son, Joel. George was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall.
His enjoyments in life included traveling, gardening, and spectator sports, especially volleyball.
George was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in October of 2000. He then had an autologous stem cell transplant in July of 2001. The disease reoccurred in May of 2006.
George is survived by his wife, Faye; daughter, Pam (and Brian) Schroeder of Eau Claire, WI; son, Joel (and Andrea) Stencel of Mankato; two grandsons, Avery Schroeder and Ethan Stencel; a granddaughter, Ashlynn Schroeder; parents, George & Mildred Stencel; two brothers, Dale of Augusta, GA and Alan of Minnesota Lake; a sister, Beverly of Minnesota Lake; 3 nephews and 3 nieces and their families; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.
