A special thank you for all the wonderful and loving care he received from his caregivers, Debbie Mizzi, Jamie Obe and Marshall Hospice care.

Gerald Raymond Moberg was born on June 4, 1928, in Arco, Minnesota. He was the son of John A. and Olga E. (Carlson) Moberg. Jerry was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth in the Christian faith. He moved with his family to Marshall at age 7 where he attended Marshall schools and graduated there with the high school class of 1946. Jerry began driving transport truck and delivering oil for his dad in the family petroleum business.

Jerry soon met Ms. Phyllis Nadine Nelson of Tyler, Mn, the love of his life. They were married for over 70 years, marrying at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Tyler on October 22, 1948. The couple lived in Marshall, intentional about making their current house a home, forming a close-knit and loving family. In January of 1951, Jerry was called to service in the Medical Battalion at Camp Rucker, Alabama, for the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. They lived for 2 years in Alabama before returning to Minnesota. Jerry quickly became more involved in the family business – a natural businessman, Jerry was proud to help his father and brother pioneer the oil and transportation business in southwest Minnesota. Along with his brother Harvey they operated Moberg Oil Company and Moberg Transport, becoming leading suppliers of tires, oil, gas and other automotive supplies, services, wholesale and retail to SW Minnesota. In all, they together operated these successful businesses in Marshall for close to 70 years. In recent years Jerry was involved in the negotiations and the sale of one of their properties to Kwik Trip Companies.

Jerry was a devoted man to his community and civic-minded, he offered support to the local hospital, the Chamber of Commerce, Lyon County Museum and Historical Society among other organizations and groups. Jerry served in the Marshall Lions Club, was a Rotarian for many years, was an active member of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall, where he served as deacon, trustee and was on the board as well as being involved in numerous Bible study and prayer groups over many years. He and Phyllis worshiped later at Living Word Lutheran Church. His other enjoyments in life included traveling, caring for his lawn and home, wintering in Arizona for close to 30 years, reading, keeping family records, fishing, hunting, and golfing. Jerry was a compassionate and patient person; faith and family were always put first for him and he daily spent time reading his Bible.

He is survived by his 3 loving children, Barry Moberg of Cold Spring, Cynthia (Brian) Pfeiffer of Marshall, Michelle (Robert) Howat of Maple Plain; 5 grandchildren, Laura (Travis) Andries of Maple Plain, Hannah Pfeiffer of Minnetonka, Colin Pfeiffer of Omaha, NE, Benjamin Nelson of Richfield, Mikaela (Taylor) Brattensborg of St. Cloud; 3 great-grandchildren, Charlotte Andries, Dryden Andries, Aemon Brattensborg; siblings, Betty (David) Sprague of Bozeman, MT; Richard (Marge) Moberg of Vinton, VA; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olga Moberg; loving wife of 71 years, Phyllis Moberg; brother, J. Harvey Moberg. Sisters-in-law; Vivian Moberg, Carol Nielsen, Irma Mattson, Marjorie Nelson, Avis Nelson. Brothers-in-law; Rev. Elwood Nielsen, Donald O. Nelson and an infant granddaughter, Emma Nelson.
