Gerald Dale Monsrud was born on August 29, 1944, to Adolph and Pearl (Toft) Monsrud in Gonvick, Minnesota. His early years were spent in Gonvick. The family moved to the Marshall area when he was a child. Jerry attended Minneota Schools, graduating with the class of 1962. From there he went into the Army and worked as a tank mechanic. After coming home, Jerry married the love of his life, Carol Van Overbeke at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley on August 4, 1966.
The couple settled in Marshall and raised three beautiful children together. Jerry was a true caretaker. He loved his family and he and Carol went above and beyond by fostering children for many years. He was a great father figure for his own children and many others who came into his life.
Jerry worked as a mechanic and he later went on to work with True Value building homes then, as a repair and salesman for water softeners. Jerry was never idle. When he wasn’t working, or playing guitar with one of his bands, he enjoyed the outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, camping, or traveling, Jerry was content. He could be found tinkering with his remote-control airplanes, fixing on things or helping his kids do home repairs. Jerry loved the holidays, and spending time with family.
