Gladys Evelyn Grant

Gladys Evelyn Grant, age 96, of Marshall and formerly of Russell, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Minneota Manor Care Center in Minneota. Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. Following a luncheon, interment will be in the Lynd City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, Wednesday at the church.

Gladys Evelyn Grant was born on August 15, 1918, in Island Lake Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Chas and Lena (Guelsow) Matthews. Gladys was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1933 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township. She attended country school and then Russell High School. Gladys returned to help her parents on the farm after 11th grade and that is where she met Mr. Glen Grant.

On August 26, 1936, Gladys and Glen were united in marriage at the church parsonage in Marshall. The couple lived and farmed in Island Lake Township. Gladys and Glen were blessed with three children: Galen, Greta, and Gregory. They shared 32 years of marriage before Glen died in 1968.

In addition to being a loving homemaker and farm wife, Gladys was a past member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies Aid, and current member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. She was a secretary for the NFO and AAL and served as a 4-H leader. Gladys also worked as a shipping clerk for Schott Corporation.

Gladys’ other enjoyments in life included baking, cooking, needle work, crocheting, gardening, bird-watching, writing stories, researching her family history, playing cards, and spending time with the family she loved so much.

Gladys entered Heaven on Sunday, February 8, 2015, in Minneota, Minnesota at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 24 days. Blessed be her memory.

Gladys is survived by her
three children, Galen (and Marie) Grant of Russell, Greta (and Bob) Lintelman of Fairmont, Gregory “Butch” (and Lori) Grant of Russell; five grandchildren, Laurie (and Jim) Millner of Lafayette, Amber Lintelman (and Joelle Shearer) of Weeping Water, NE, Seth (and Elizabeth) Lintelman Fairmont, Lacey (and Mike) Sanow of Russell, Glen Grant (and Trisha Venenga) of Russell; three great-grandchildren, Matt Millner (and Ashley Schreurs), Rose Millner, and Addison Lintelman; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chas and Lena Matthews; husband, Glen W. Grant; and sister, Agnes Pochardt.

The family invites everyone to the church basement immediately following the service for a luncheon.
