Cottonwood: Harold Schwison, age 91, of Cottonwood passed away at his home on Friday, December 14, 2012. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 18th at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vistitation will be on Monday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the church. Hamilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Schwisow was born on April 30, 1921 to Louis and Anna (Baumfalk) Schwisow in Fairbury, Nebraska, where he was also baptized. He was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. On May 7, 1959 in Robbinsdale, MN he was united in marriage to Mary Hanson of Cottonwood, MN .
Harold completed high school in 1940 and remained in the Fairbury, Nebraska area working on farms until January 1, 1948 when he enlisted in the Army. During this time he was stationed in Germany and Newfoundland. He was honorably discharged from the Army and then began another enlistment in 1958 with the US Air Force. During his time in the Air Force Harold and his family lived in several places including, Minneapolis, Colorado, Arkansas, California and Italy. He was also deployed to Thailand for 1 year while his family resided in Cottonwood. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1971 at Edwards Air Force Base in California at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Harold and his family then moved to Cottonwood, MN.
Harold was able to work from the age of 18 until he reached the age of 81. After his military career he worked at Mid Continent Cabinetry as a cabinet maker until retired in 2002.
Harold was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.
Harold loved to garden and take care of the lawn. He also loved to feed the birds and watch them as they bickered for nesting spots. He loved camping with his family in the summers and playing pinochle on long winter evenings. His greatest joy was his family and his career in the Armed Forces.
Harold passed away at his home on Friday, December 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He had reached the age of 91 years, 7 months and 14 days.
Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; his daughter Sherri Schwisow of Cottonwood; and his grandson, Jeremy Schwisow (fiancé Rheanna) of San Francisco, California.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Kevin Lewis and Michelle Rene; his brothers, Maurice, Jack; and his sisters, Irene Sweetser, Nancy Schrock, Geri Seifert and Eve Nolte.
