Hassayampa Clyde "Pete" Pedersen, age 77, of Marshall, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Minneota Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 17, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, from 4 to 7 P.M., with a prayer service at 6:30, at the Hamilton Funeral Home and visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Hassayampa Clyde Pedersen was born on January 25, 1931 to Hans and Laura (Jacobsen) Pedersen in Phoenix, Arizona. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended and graduated from Ruthton High School in 1949. Clyde went on to the University of Minnesota - Duluth. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended business courses in Colorado Springs, CO, while managing his father’s apartment buildings. Clyde then moved back to Ruthton, MN and entered the banking business.
On July 6, 1963, Clyde was united in marriage to Helen Hier in Springfield, MN. They lived in Ruthton for 15 years, while he continued his banking business. After retiring, the family moved to Marshall where Clyde pursued his second career and passion, archaeology.
H. Clyde Pedersen succumbed to cancer in Minneota, Minnesota, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 16 days.
Clyde was a proud Veteran and a member of the American Legion - post 113, the NRA, Marshall Music Boosters and an Ex-Officio Professor of Archaeology for the Science Museum of Minnesota. Clyde was a sportsman who especially enjoyed shooting sports and pan fishing. He was an avid reader of nonfiction. In addition to authoring articles on prehistoric people, Clyde made presentations to over 100 groups of school children, social and business organizations on the “Prehistoric People of Southwest Minnesota”. He also took great pride in teaching archaeology at the Southwest Minnesota Senior College.
Pete is survived by his wife, Helen of Marshall; children, Kirsten (and Scott) Boehne of Savage, Elizabeth “Libby” (and Mike) Isenberg of Staples, MN, Matthew (and Melanie) Pedersen of Marshall, and Mark (and Shannon) Pedersen of Marshall; 9 grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, and Kayla Boehne, Devon and Rachael Isenberg, Halle and Eli Pedersen, and Jack and Beret Pedersen; a sister, Kathleen Dietrick of Suwanee, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Laura; a son, Baby Boy; and sister, Constance Bloom.
