Janice M. Oftedal, age 60, of Cottonwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, from 5 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Friends and Family are invited to attend the burial at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, in Cottonwood at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1.
Janice Marie Oftedal was born on November 24, 1947, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Einar and Elsie (Jappe) Oftedal. She was baptized and confirmed at the Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Janice attended and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1965, and then went on to St. Olaf College and graduated in 1969. She worked in the Twin Cities at TCF Bank and Methodist hospital for several years. She then returned to Cottonwood and lived on the family farm. Janice struggled with mental and physical ill health during her adult years.
Her passion in life was figure skating which she pursued while living in the Twin Cities; she also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood.
Janice passed away at the age of 60 years and 7 months.
Survivors include her sister, Diane (and Dean) Milbrath of Lake Elmo; aunt and uncle, Lars and Phyllis Jappe of Marshall; and nine cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Einar and Elsie; aunts and uncles, Clarence & Agnes Schroeder and George & Gladys Oftedal
