Jenny Mae Egly

Marshall: Jenny Mae Egly, age 102, of Marshall, died on Thursday, November 29, 2007 Morningside Heights Health Care Center. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 3, 2007 at First Congregational Church in Chadron, Nebraska. Burial will be the Chadron City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to the time of the service. Dr. Russ Seger will be officiating.
Jenny Mae Pettegrew was born April 3, 1905 on a ranch in fall river county which is 16 miles southwest of Oelrichs, South Dakota. She was born to Ernest and Lois (Wright) Pettegrew on the farm where she grew up. She attended country schools through the eighth grade and then wen to Chadron, Nebraska, and Hot Spring, South Dakota. She attended teachers training for two sessions. She then taught for 12 months in South Dakota Schools. Jenny was united in marriage to Enise Egly on December 31, 1925, in Hot Spring, South Dakota. In 1926, they moved onto the Wright homestead, 5 miles south of Oelrichs, where they lived for 23 years. They then moved to Chadron for 6 years so their children could attend school. Jenny also completed two years of college at Chadron State. In 1956, they moved onto the Hageman place and then, in 1965, moved back to Chadron until 2003 when she moved to Marshall, Minnesota to be near to her son, Bob. She lived inan assisted living home until August of 2004 when she moved into Morningside Heights Care Center for the remainder of her life.
Jenny died on November 29, 2007 at the age of 102 years, 7 months, and 26 days.
Jenny¹s enjoyments in life included reading, crocheting, cooking, gardening, visiting, and spending time with her family and friends. She belonged to the Chadron Women's Club, Art Club, TOPS, Home Extension, and she was a 4-H leader. She worked in her garden until she was 98, caring for a lot of flowers, special roses, and irises.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Schmit of Fresno, CA, Bob (and Karen) Egly of Marshall, and Don (and Lucille) Egly of Oelrichs, SD; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Enise; daughter, Enid Schmit; grandson, Leslie Schmit; and 2 brothers, Loree and Ernest. Blessed Be The Memory of Jenny Mae Egly.
