Jerry Dean Sanow was born in Marshall, Minnesota, on September 29, 1959, to Vernon Sr. and Katherine (Haney) Sanow. He attended Marshall area schools and was a 1978 Marshall High School graduate. He was baptized at the Church of Christ in Marshall. Jerry was always a hard-working man; in his childhood, he worked with his dad at the Mink Farm in Marshall, and took many breaks together at the local A&W.
In November of 1981, Jerry met Kim Helmberger while attending a dance at the Tracy VFW, and six months later, on May 29, 1982, they were united in marriage at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tracy. To this union, four daughters were born: Emily, Stefanie, Rachel, and Anna. The family lived in Marshall for 10 years before moving to a farm just south of Amiret, where they have resided for the past 28 years. Jerry worked for Schwan’s for over 38 years, earning top salesman awards many years in a row, and most recently he worked for ADM, in the maintenance department as the “Tool Man.”
Jerry had a heart for helping others and often would “Jerry-rig” things. Some would get “the look” for asking a silly question. He was a devoted father, he enjoyed watching his girls’ sporting events at Marshall High School, took them to weekend Horse Shows, and lovingly spent many hours fixing their cars. Jerry took charge of Sanow Reunions and Labor Day weekend gathering. He was the best at grilling and making others feel welcomed and loved. He had a passion for John “Cougar” Mellencamp, dancing and singing at many barn parties and getting to several concerts over the years. Jerry enjoyed ice fishing, pheasant hunting, numerous Bowling Leagues, and giving the grandkids rides on the tractor, lawnmower, and 4-wheeler. He and Kim have been members at Living Word Lutheran Church for the past 4 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kim Sanow of Tracy; daughters, Emily (Christopher) Franks of Prior Lake, Stefanie (Tyler) Spear of Shakopee, Rachel (Nick) Bode of Mankato, Anna (James) Fultz of Tracy; 4 grandchildren, Liam, Eli, Rowan, Paxton; father, Vernon Sanow Sr. of Tracy; siblings, Deb (Mark) Magnuson of Cold Spring, Vernon “Shorty” (Cindy) Sanow of Garvin, Marvin “Louie” (Mary) Sanow of Tracy, Scott “Whitey” (Julie) Sanow of Garvin, Pat (Dyann) McCarthy of Lake Benton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine (Haney) Sanow; sisters, Kelly Sanow, Tam Hoflock; and parents-in-law, Marcia and Al Welch.
