JoAnn Schultz, age 82, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Due to the current public gathering limitations, Private Family Funeral Services will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall on Monday, May 11, 2020. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. JoAnn Frieda Barck was born on July 17, 1937, in Pontiac, Michigan, to parents Clarence and Amelia (Volkman) Barck. She was baptized as an infant, received first communion, and was confirmed in the Catholic faith. JoAnn attended various schools as her family moved around and she graduated from the Tracy (Minnesota) High School with the class of 1955. Shortly thereafter, she was married to Alton Schultz in Brookings, County, South Dakota, and began raising her young and growing family.
Following Alton’s untimely death in 1963, JoAnn returned to School at the Vo-Tech school in Canby and continued to care for 4 sons. She was then married to John Bretzman in 1971 and they soon added a 5th son to the blended family. JoAnn worked for many years as a bookkeeper for several businesses and spent time at the Cheese Island at Hy-Vee in Marshall. She was a long-time Marshall resident and member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. JoAnn sold Avon and Amway, was president of the Marshall Diabetic Club, member of the Snowmobile Club. Her other enjoyments in life included playing games with her children and grandchildren, flowers, gardening, crocheting, needlepoint, reading, puzzles, birds, butterflies, and traveling – often spontaneously to visit family and friends.
JoAnn Schultz died on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, in Marshall, Minnesota, at the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 18 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her 4 sons, Bob (and Sue) Schultz of Marshall, Randy (and Lois) Schultz of Minneota, Ron (and Vickie) Schultz of Marshall, Dillon (and Nikki) Schultz of Lynd; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings, Jerry Barck of Luverne, Patsy (and Ron) Briggs of Hendricks, Mary Blasl of Ivanhoe, Karen (and Mike) Vestal of Inver Grove Heights, Sandy (and Cathy) Barck of Dallas, TX; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Amelia Barck; husband, Alton Schultz; and a son, Ricky Schultz.
