John Boerboom, age 73, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, November 16, 2019, under the care of Hospice at his home in Marshall, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Marshall, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will then continue one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., on Thursday at the church.
Memorials can be designated to Prairie Home Hospice or directed to the Veteran's Park in Marshall.
John Hubert Boerboom was born on September 8, 1946, to Hubert and Elizabeth “Babe” (Clark) Boerboom in Marshall, Minnesota. He was baptized, received first Communion, and was confirmed at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. John attended school in Marshall, graduating with the Central Catholic High School class of 1964. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Upon his honorable discharge, John returned home and met Georgia Hansen at the horse barn during the Lyon County Fair.
On May 13, 1972, Georgia and John were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Chapel in Marshall. The couple raised 4 boys while John worked driving truck first for Marshall Meats and then over 30 years with the Distribution Center at Schwan’s. In retirement, John also stayed busy working at the HyVee meat counter. The couple spent over 47 years of marriage together.
John was a long-time member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He also served 13 years on the Rodeo Committee for the Lyon County Fair where he was awarded Rodeo Committee Member of the Year in 2008. He was hard-working, caring, patient, humble, intentional and always very thoughtful. John always enjoyed his time with family and friends, working around horses, camping, and tinkering at the barn. It was a rare Sunday afternoon when John couldn’t be found enjoying a tomato-beer and telling stories around a backyard campfire. His loving and happy demeanor will be missed.
John Boerboom entered his Heavenly home on November 16, 2019. He reached the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 8 days. Blessed be his memory.
He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Boerboom of Marshall; sons, Travis (and Tracy) Boerboom of Champlin, Justin Boerboom of Sturgis, SD, Aaron (and Amanda) Boerboom of Mott, ND, Josh Boerboom of Marshall; 6 grandchildren, Mason, MaKenna, Maguire, Kennedy, Cooper and Birch; siblings, Mary (and David ) Wilson of Brooklyn Park, Betty Stenerson of Brooklyn Center, Bob (and Roxy) Boerboom of Wabasso; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Babe Boerboom and other relatives.
