John Patrick Kelley

John “Jack” Kelley, age 73, of Marshall, passed away at the Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Thursday, January 8, 2009. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service. John “Jack” Patrick Kelley was born to Henry and Pearl (Stava) Kelley on May 26, 1935 near Vesta, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ United Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1953 and then worked the family farm after the young death of his father.
On December 27, 1956, John was united in marriage to Donna Mae Minnick at the Methodist Church in Marshall. After their marriage, John continued to farm until 1970. He then began working at Southwest State University and retired in 2000. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at the time of his death.
John’s enjoyments in life included fishing, hunting, bingo, dancing, going to the lake, camping, and spending time with friends and family, especially the grandkids. He was also a proud member of the Eagles Club.
John passed away at the Avera McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls on Thursday, January 8, 2009. He had reached the age of 73 years 7 months and 13 days.
He is survived by his children, Deb (and Stuart Palm) Myhre of Wisconsin, John Jr. (and Ann) Kelley of Tracy, Cindy Kelley of Marshall, and Amanda Kelley of Slayton; four grandchildren, Shawn, Darin, Jennifer, and Timothy; 2 great-grandchildren, Brayden and Isaiah; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and 2 children, Kathy and William.
