Johnny Oftedahl, age 89, of Granite Falls and formerly of Marshall, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Granite Falls Manor. Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.Visitation will be hour hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Johnny Marcellius Oftedahl was born to Marcellius and Rachel (Jensen) Oftedahl on July 25, 1919 in Astoria, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in Astoris. Johnny attended Astoria Country School.
On November 9, 1947, Johnny married Donna Maertens in Cottonwood, Minnesota. Johnny lived in Astoria, SD, Hanley Falls, Cottonwood, Tracy, Marshall, and Granite Falls. He drove truck to 34 years. Johnny was employed under Smith’s, Inc. and later Johnson Leasing.
Johnny’s enjoyments in life included bowling, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Johnny passed away suddenly on March 10, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 13 days.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Granite Falls; children, Phillip (and JoAnn) Oftedahl of Dequque, Iowa and Rachel (and Nader) Mirghavamedin of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Mark (and Melissa) Oftedahl of Debuque, Ryan (and Abby) Oftedahl of Debuque, Mindy (and Darrell) Wiley of Farley, Iowa, and Alica Mirghavamedin on Seattle, Washington; great-grandchildren, Alex, Cole, Kayla, and Emma Oftedahl and Colton Wiley; and sister, Ida Johnson of Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Thomas and Olive Rewerts.
