Judy Sorenson, age 70, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the Prairie Home Hospice – McLaughlin House in Marshall, Minnesota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the church.
Judy Ann Johnson was born April 20, 1949, to Marvin and Opal (Olson) Johnson in Tyler, Minnesota. She grew up in Ruthton, Minnesota, and was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church. Judy attended school in Ruthton before transferring in her senior year to graduate with the Marshall High School class of 1967.
On July 20, 1968, Judy was married to Dan Sorenson at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in Marshall until 1971 when they moved to Lake Elmo. 8 years later the family returned to Marshall, now including a daughter, Susan. Judy ran a daycare before filling in at the Lyon County Jail as a cook. 23 years later her “2-week fill-in” was complete. She retired in 2011 after so many years of feeding and serving for others.
Judy was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall. Her enjoyments in life included flowers, cleaning the house, going to the casino, her cats, and caring for others. In addition to being care-giver to her parents, Judy loved to cook for large crowds – especially family gatherings.
Judy Sorenson died September 4, 2019, at the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dan Sorenson of Marshall; daughter, Susan (and Justin) LaMorie of Wood Lake; siblings, Marlowe Johnson of Marshall, Gary (Judy) Johnson of Heron Lake; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Opal Johnson.
