June Esther was born on June 20, 1919 in Marshall, Minnesota to parents Emil and Louise (Manke) Pochardt. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Island Lake Township. She graduated from the Marshall High School.
On November 25, 1943, June was united in marriage to Willard E. Skoog. They lived near Marshall until purchasing a farm near Clinton in 1951. They moved to Ortonville in 1968 and then moved to Marshall in 1978. June was a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.
June entered the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center on June 23, 2011. She passed away there on Monday, January 2, 2012. She had reached the age of 92 years, 6 months and 12 days.
The joys of June's life were her Lord and her children. She was never afraid to share her faith and pray for others. And her face would just glow at the sight or mention of one of her children. She never played favorites with Louise, Daryl and Debbie, rather she cherished each one just the way they were and felt blessed that God had entrusted them into her care.
June was born to be a mom and to quietly minister to others. To her there was no higher calling. Whether you were her child, her brother or sister, her niece or nephew, or her friend, she was always there for you, celebrating your triumphs, supporting your endeavors, drying your tears, defending your honor, laughing at your jokes, or just quietly listening when you needed someone to hear you.
June loved God's creations, thrilling at the sight of a beautiful bird or the opening of a new rose. She also loved to be creative and share that which she had made, mastering the arts of quilting and other fine needle works.
Music was also important in her life. While she never learned to play the piano, she desired that her children would have that chance. She raised ducks and geese for sale, using the proceeds to ultimately purchase a piano, so that they might have that opportunity. To her music spoke to the soul, whether one was listening to it or creating it.
Her gentle presence will be missed by those who survive her, her three children, Louise Leuenberger of Marion, IA, Debbie (David) Throckmorton of Fairfax, VA and Daryl (Joan) Skoog of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson, Darren (Andrea) Skoog; great granddaughter, Sienna Skoog; two sister-in-laws, Viola Pochardt of Balaton and Arlene Pochardt of Marshall, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willard on August 28, 1999; three brothers, Louis, Walter and Lawrence; and five sisters, Elsie, Minnie, Viola, Lucille and Alfrieda.
