June Stanton, age 95, of Russell, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, Minnesota. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2020, at Grace First Parish in Russell, Minnesota. Private interment will be at a later date in the Russell Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A prayer service is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday, March 9, 2020, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the church in Russell.
June Wigton was born on June 12, 1924, to parents Lewis and Lydia “Liddie” (Lee) Wigton in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. She was baptized in the Christian faith and attended country school. June worked at a toy factory, the egg plant, and was a farm girl before she met Mr. Robert Stanton.
On September 22, 1946, June and Robert were united in marriage in Slayton, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Pipestone and Lynd before settling in Russell in 1951. They raised 4 children as June served as loving mother, devoted housewife, and jack-of-all-trades. She was a master at accomplishing whatever her family needed and did so with love.
June was member of the Russell American Legion Auxiliary, where she was Chaplain, and was a long-time member of Grace First Parish where she served on the Ladies’ Aide. Her enjoyments in life included fishing, gardening, square dancing, playing cards, and cooking. Her family was everything to her and she cherished the time spent with them.
June Stanton died on March 3, 2020, in Marshall, Minnesota. She had reached age of 95 years, 8 months, and 20 days. Blessed be her memory.
June is survived by her 4 children, Barbara Williams of Russell, Matt (Linda) Stanton of Russell, Carroll (Mary) Stanton of Lynd, Cathy (Marlin) Besse of Garvin; 9 grandchildren, Stacy (Sarah) Stanton, Becky (Jim) Burns, Jay Williams, Crystal (Kevin) Rud, Carrie Johnston, Meghan (Dennis) DeBolt, Troy Stanton (Laura Jones), Dawn Kunkel, Wendy (Pat) Goltz; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Gladys Knapper of Slayton, Betty Stanton of Pipestone; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Liddie Wigton; husband, Robert Stanton; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Stanton, Christopher Stanton, Ryan Besse; son-in-law, Larry Williams; 6 brothers; and 4 sisters.
Memorials are preferred to Avera Hospice in Marshall.
