Marshall: Laura L. Kehren, age 76, of Marshall, passed away at her residence on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 30th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery near Goodhue.
Marshall: Laura L. Kehren, age 76, of Marshall, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 26, 2012 after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. She passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 30th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Laura was born on April 3, 1936 in Monango, ND, the youngest child of Reinhold and Caroline (Gebhardt) Fiechtner. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monango. In 1953 she graduated from Monango High School and went on to graduate from the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale, ND in 1955. Later she received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Concordia Teachers' College in Seward, NE. Her first career was an elementary school teacher. She taught at elementary schools in Fargo, ND, Devil’s Lake, ND, Red Wing, MN, and Eastside Elementary School in Marshall.
On August 16, 1964, Laura was united in marriage to Reinhold “Rudy” Kehren at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, ND. After their marriage, they made their home in Marshall, MN. From 1970-2007, she and her husband owned and operated the Wee Moderns Children’s Clothing Store in Marshall.
Laura was a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall and lived out her Christian faith by serving others. She found great joy in volunteering in the church and community. She especially enjoyed teaching children and singing. She taught Sunday School, led the Sunday School children in music, sang in the church choir, participated in the Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women's Missionary Society, volunteered with Jesus Cares ministry to the developmentally disabled, Meals on Wheels, and at Samuel Lutheran School in Marshall. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Reinhold “Rudy” of Marshall; two children, Pastor Jonathan (Virginia) Kehren of Rocklin, CA and Carolyn (Brian) McCauley of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Kehren and Hannah, Norah and Leah McCauley; brother, Arlan Fiechtner of Monango, ND; and sister, Helen Speidel of Menomonie, WI; She was preceded in death by her parents, Reinhold and Caroline Fiechtner.
