LaVina Magdalena Mary Champine, age 89, of Ceylon, passed away at the Minneota Manor Health Care Center in Minneota, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Ceylon Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Lake Belt Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church two hours prior to the service.
LaVina Magdelena Mary Champine was born to Henry and Ella (Meyer) Schmidt on September 24, 1918 on the family farm near Ceylon in Martin County. She was baptized and confirmed a St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ceylon.
On June 9, 1949, LaVina was united in marriage to Howard E. Champine. They made their home in Ceylon, where LaVina was an active Womens Guild member and the organist at church for 65 years, she also was a member of the Ceylon American Legion Auxillary. Her enjoyments and hobbies included playing cards, bowling, vegetable and flower gardening, and playing the organ.
LaVina passed away at the Minneota Manor Health Care Center on Sunday, March 30, 2008. She had reached 89 years, 6 months and 6 days.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Karen Champine of Marshall; granddaughter, Alison Champine of Marshall; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Babe Schmidt of Ceylon; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Howard.
