Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 16th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
Louise was born October 14, 1922 in Detroit Michigan to Charles and Mattie Hardan. She had but one sibling, a sister Regina, with whom she was very close. She moved with her family from Detroit to Tennessee where they lived for several years before returning to Detroit where she graduated highschool then completed 2 years of college at K- College in Kalamazoo, MI. She and her sister then moved to Minneapolis MN where she met John A. Froelich of Tracy MN. They were married for 25 years, living in both Minnesota and Michigan. After John's death she married Lester Schmid of Marshall, while attending Southwest State University where she was completing her bachelors degree in Independent Studies.
During their 22 years of marriage Les and Louise lived in Marshall but traveled extensively throughout the world, living 3 months in England and 3 months in Chile, visited most of the European countries, Canada and nearly every state in America.
Besides traveling Louise loved cooking, canning and freezing bounty from the garden, classical music, the theater, bird identification and political discussions.
Her proudest achievements were her work with Habitat for Humanity, being instrumental in the development of the local food shelf, and being presented with the award for local volunteer of the year.
Louise is survived by her children Mark Froelich of San Diego, CA; Lynn Wigton (Clarence) of Lake Shetek MN; Kurt Froelich (DeeAnn) of Golden Valley MN; Ben Schmid of Marshall and Heidi Schmid of Marshall; grandchildren Danielle Baker, Johnathan Wigton, Bradley Wigton, Angela Morrow, Michael Froelich, JoAnn Boettcher and Sheree Froelich; and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her spouses John Froelich and Lester Schmid, an infant son (Froelich) and her sister Regina.
Service is planned for Wednesday, January 16 at 2 pm at the Wesley Methodist Church in Marshall MN, the Reverend Wes Johnson presiding, with visitation one hour prior at the church.
Pallbearers are Mark Froelich, Kurt Froelich, Ben Schmid and Clarence Wigton; honorary pallbearers are the 7 grandchildren.
Internment will be at the Marshall City Cemetery with Hamilton Funeral Home in charge.
Louise's family would like to thank the staff of the Prairie Home Hospice House for their patience, love and care for the past 2+ years during her journey home, as well as our local Avera chemo nurses. If only you could realize what a difference you make in allowing local treatment rather than a weekly trip to Sioux Falls!
