Lucille Hay, age 96, of Marshall, Minnesota, died peacefully and unrelated to Covid-19 on Friday, January 22, 2021, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Marshall Cemetery.
Lucille Adeline Gunderman was born to George and Minnie (Utz) Gunderman in Seward Township, rural Fulda, Minnesota on October 24, 1924. She was baptized in Fulda and attended country school through the 8th grade. Lucy then worked at Shorty’s Café as a waitress in Avoca.
On April 25, 1948. Lucille was united in marriage to James Fostvedt at the Fulda Lutheran Church and the couple had 2 children. Following a lengthy illness, James died in 1967. Lucy was then united in marriage to Donald Hay on October 11, 1969, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in Marshall. As she raised her growing family, Lucy began working at Halter Real Estate in 1981. Just a couple years later, she earned her Brokers License. She worked in real estate until her retirement in 1992.
Lucy was active in her church, teaching Sunday School for 10 years at First Lutheran in Marshall. She enjoyed leading others, serving as president (2 years and treasurer (8 years) of the ALCW, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, past president of the Weiner Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and she was a member of the Red Hat Society. Her enjoyments in life included time spent at the cabin on Lake Cochrane, dancing, golfing, playing cards, and she was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.
Lucille Hay died on Friday, January 22, 2021, in Marshall, Minnesota. She reached the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 29 days. Blessed be her memory.
Lucy is survived by her daughter, Janeen Taveirne (Arvid Risa) of Marshall; grandsons, Tyler Taveirne of Marshall, Ross Taveirne (Rochelle Luebke and her daughter, Rowyn) of Marshall; siblings, Genevieve Rehnelt of Jackson, Richard (Juanita) Gunderman of Fulda; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Fostvedt; second husband, Don Hay; son, Randall Fostvedt; grandson, Joshua Taveirne; and siblings, Albin Gunderman, Leonard Gunderman, Clarence Gunderman, Adella Lundeen, and Dorothy McCuen.
