Manuel “Manny” Hernandez, age 41, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Friday, December 18, 2020, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Grace Life Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the church. Occupancy limits and social distancing must be observed throughout all services. Masks are required at all public indoor gatherings.
Manuel “Manny” Hernandez was born on August 22, 1979, in Los Angeles, California, to Benito and Dolores (Rosas) Hernandez. He attended grade school in Los Angeles and was a 1996 graduate of George Washington Preparatory High School. After high school, Manny attended LA Trade Tech College and received his degree in car mechanics. In 1997, he moved from California to Marshall and started working as a carpenter.
Manny took great pride in loving and caring for his family. He had a special bond with his mom, enjoyed teaching his step-son, Gabriel, and all of Gabriel’s friends how to be men and care for themselves, and he loved spending time with his step-daughter Valerie. Manny was a hard worker, whether it be fixing cars with Gabriel, or creating furniture from wood for his mom. Manny was a happy, friendly, and welcoming person. He never met a stranger and always greeted people with a simple “hello” and a wave. To know Manny was to love Manny.
Manny was united in marriage to Monica Tara Gaxiola on October 31, 2017 in Marshall. Religion was particularly important to Manny, he was baptized, had his first communion, and was confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Los Angeles. After marrying Monica, the couple then became members of Grace Life Church.
In his free time, Manny enjoyed listening to all types of music, animals, especially his Siberian Husky (Kayla), Blue Heeler (Tres), four cats (Mono, Micky, Azul, and Blue), Bearded Dragon (Crumbs), cooking, and barbecuing. He loved to travel and would often go on car rides. He loved to learn and often watched documentaries to gain knowledge about the world around him. He was proud to vote for the very first time the 2020 election season.
Manny Hernandez died on Friday, December 18, 2020, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 41 years, 3 months, and 27 days. Blessed be his memory.
Manny is survived by his wife, Monica Hernandez of Marshall; step-children, Marlene Herrera of Marshall, Valerie Herrera of Marshall, Gabriel Jimenez of Marshall; his adopted step-son, Johnny Lozano of Marshall, father, Benito Hernandez of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; mother, Dolores Hernandez of Jalisco, Mexico; 4 siblings, Rafael (Maria) Hernandez of Marshall, Araceli Hernandez of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Daniel Hernandez of Los Angeles, CA, Alejandro Hernandez of Los Angeles, CA; his beloved four-legged companion, Kayla; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Manny is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cayetano and Isabel Hernandez; and his maternal grandparents, German and Maria Rosas.
