Mary Lou Lange, age 84, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, Minnesota. Memorial Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will be held one hour prior to her celebration, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Following a reception, interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Granite Falls, Minnesota, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Mary Louise Nyberg was born on March 10, 1940, in Deer Creek, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Melvin and Minnie (Wendorff) Nyberg. Mary Lou grew up in the Deer Creek and Henning area where she was baptized as an infant and then confirmed in her youth in the Lutheran faith. Mary Lou graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1958.
On May 5, 1960, Mary Lou was united in marriage to Merle Lange while he was on deployment in Raleigh, North Carolina. While there, she worked at a loan company. After a couple years the couple moved back to Merle’s hometown of Granite Falls, Minnesota. Later the family moved to Marshall where she began a 31-year career at Southwest Minnesota State University, working most of those years as a Senior Account Clerk in the Business Office. Mary Lou retired in 1999.
Mary Lou was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, and she was a past Eagles member - both in Minnesota and Arizona as they spent many winters down South. She and Merle started by driving their motorhome there in the late 1990s and in retirement they spent over 20 winters in the Arizona sun. Her other enjoyments included bowling, golfing, Bingo, shuffleboard, card games, and keeping up with all Minnesota sports teams.
Mary Lou Lange died peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in Slayton, Minnesota. She had reached the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 17 days. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by 3 children, Susan (and Todd) Christoffer of Erwin, SD, David Lange of Marshall, Holly (and Lee) Sorum of Marshall; 5 grandchildren, Katie (and Mat) Stahl of Maple Grove, Stephany (and Adam) Sletten of Nevis, Lucas (and Emily) Christoffer of Marshall, Shelby (and Cyrus) Birchard of Rogers, Aaron (and Sammi) Lange of Chanhassen; 8 great-grandchildren (and another baby girl due in January), Ella, Emmie, Kashton, Kalvin, Kyra, Beckett, Otis, Ray; brother-in-law, Dale Lange of Albuquerque, NM; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Nyberg; mother and step-father, Minnie and Archie Whiting; husband, Merle Lange; an infant daughter and an infant son; sisters, JoAnn (Loren) Post, Pauline (Russ) Moeser; brothers, Roger (Darlene) Nyberg, and Lyle (Lu) Nyberg.
