Michael Gordon Erickson

Michael Erickson, age 67, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 am – 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall, Minnesota. A reception for attendees will follow at First Lutheran Church in Marshall, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Michael Gordon Erickson was born on March 19, 1957, in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was the son of Gordon and Carol (Mattin) Erickson. Michael grew up in Pipestone and attended school there. He graduated with the high school class of 1975 and immediately enrolled at the local vocational college, finishing in 1977. 

Beginning in the March of 1977, Michael ran the Eagle Cafe in Pipestone for seven years with his friend and business partner, Larry Bruns. Michael then went to work for a Bistro in Mason City, Iowa, before phasing into his manager role with Shopko. He managed stores in Mason City (IA), Albert Lea (MN), and River Falls (WI) before moving to the Marshall store in 2002. Michael then began working with the Marshall Hy-Vee grocery store and spent the next 18 years there as the overnight supervisor. He retired in 2022.

While working at Shopko in River Falls he met coworker, Kathy “Kat” Mauel, and the two were united in marriage on June 26th, 1999, in River Falls. They spent over 25 years together and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. When Michael wasn't working, he also enjoyed programs on TV and watching NASCAR races with his wife.

Michael Erickson died peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Marshall, Minnesota. He was 67 years old, blessed be his memory.

He is survived by his wife Kat Erickson of Marshall; daughter, Tracy (and Matt) Johnson of Hampton, IA; parents, Gordon & Carol Erickson of Pipestone; grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Wyatt Johnson; brother, Thomas Erickson (and Pam Borgen) of Minneapolis; nephew, Gordon Erickson of Minneapolis; best friends, Larry & Donna Bruns of Pipestone; other relatives and friends.
