Mildred Demuth

Mildred DeMuth, age 86, of Starbuck, formerly of Marshall, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Memorial services are Monday, December 1, 2014, 11:00 AM, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Following the luncheon, interment will be in the Vesta Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 ½ hours prior to the service, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the church.

Mildred Kletscher was born on September 19, 1928, in Vesta, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Arthur and Elsie (Kuehn) Kletscher. Mildred was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. She attended country school in Vesta and then helped her parents on the farm.

On March 5, 1949, Mildred was united in marriage to Emil M. DeMuth in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Pipestone for a couple years before moving to Lynd and shortly thereafter, Marshall. Mildred was a loving homemaker and mother to three children: Carolyn, Doug, and Roger. Upon Emil’s retirement in May of 1983, Mildred and Emil became true snowbirds, spending 6 months a year in Apache Junction, Arizona and summered in Starbuck. After Emil passed away, Mildred still went to Arizona and eventually moved back to Marshall. In May of 2010, when she needed assistance with her daily care, Mildred moved to Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.

Mildred was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, once active in the Ladies’ Aid. Her enjoyments in life included gardening, canning, reading, embroidery, plastic canvas projects, and other crafts. She loved her time in Arizona and enjoyed the sunshine. She truly loved playing cards, especially with the grandchildren in her later years.

Mildred DeMuth died on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Starbuck, Minnesota at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 7 days.

Mildred is survived by her children, Carolyn Svenddal of Minneapolis, MN, Doug DeMuth and his wife, Janet, of Starbuck, MN, Roger DeMuth of Marshall, MN; 7 grandchildren, Mary, Jeff, Ryan (Melissa), Wendy (Richard), Bethann, Lacey (Tim), Austin (Brydie); 8 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Elsie Kletscher; husband, Emil DeMuth; sisters, Veona Kaehler and LaVon Werner; and brother, Murl Kletscher.

The family invites everyone to the church basement for a luncheon following the service.
