Mildred Thomas, age 106, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the Minneota Manor Care Center. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery in Marshall, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota.
Mildred “Millie” Maxine Greeley was born on April 9, 1913, in Amiret, Minnesota, to parents Ray and Gay (Johnson) Greeley. She grew up on the family farm, was baptized September 24, 1914, in Marshall, and attended school there as well. She was proud to graduate from the Marshall High School with the class of 1932.
On May 1, 1934, Millie was united in marriage to Donald K. Thomas in Marshall. The couple made their home in town while Millie worked as a salesclerk. She spent 15 years at the Gamble Store and another 15 years at Trade Mart, all while raising her 4 children. She and Don spent 58 years of marriage together before his death in October of 1992.
Millie was a long-time member of Wesley Methodist Church in Marshall (now Cornerstone). She served as an early director for the Marshall Senior Center. Her enjoyments in life included knitting, crocheting, quilting, playing cards, and Bingo. Millie and Don enjoyed riding bicycle together and camping. After Don’s death, Mildred traveled to visit relatives in Missouri, California, Florida, Alaska, and Maryland.
Mildred Thomas died on December 15, 2019, in Minneota, Minnesota, at the age of 106 years, 8 months, and 6 days. Blessed be her memory.
Millie is survived by her children, Barbara Breckenridge, Byron “Tank” (Lucy) Thomas, Benton (Shirley) Thomas; grandchildren, Burton Ray Thomas, Jr., Cynthia (Jay) Cummings, Cheryl (Andy) Stein, Nancy Breckenridge (Paul Holton), Michael Breckenridge, Steven (Gwynne) Thomas, Sheila (Tim) Sullivan; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Millie is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Gay Greeley; husband, Donald Thomas; son, Burton R. Thomas; grandson, Donald Wayne Thomas; granddaughter-in-law, Anne Stone Thomas; son-in-law, John Breckenridge; and sister, Mae Hahn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Cornerstone United Methodist Church or charity of donor’s choice.
