Nancy Jane Sando

Nancy Sando, age 81, of Marshall, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at her home. Funeral Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., on Thursday at the church.

Nancy Jane Seiler was born to Louis and Anna (Bengtson) Seiler on December 1, 1938, on the family farm East of Marshall, Minnesota. She attended school in Marshall before graduating from high school with the class of 1956. Nancy worked at Northwestern Bell Phone Company and also cared for her parents at home.

On September 26, 1959, Nancy was united in marriage to Robert Sando in Baltimore, Maryland. The couple made their home on Nancy’s family farm outside Marshall – where they still live today. She was a devoted homemaker, farm wife, and mother to their 5 children: Lori, Robert, Judith, Susan, and Thomas.

Nancy was proud to spend her whole life on her family’s farm and as the children grew, she worked as a cook at Wiener Memorial Hospital and later as a greeter at Walmart. She was a member of Albright (now Cornerstone) United Methodist Church in Marshall. Her enjoyments in life included being outdoors, gardening, caring for her cats (and dogs too), reading, and Nancy was an avid sports fan, following many local teams.

Nancy Sando died on March 5, 2020, on her home farm place. She had reached the age of 81 years, 3 months, and 4 days. Blessed be her memory.

Nancy is survived by her 5 children, Lori (and Ken) Halvorson of Egan, SD, Rob (and Pam) Sando of Roseau, MN, Judy (and Brian) Nietfeld of Paynesville, MN, Sue (and Ed) Thooft of Milroy, MN, Tom (and Julie) Sando of Marshall; 12 grandchildren, James (and Emily) Halvorson, Josh Halvorson, Jennifer (and Jon) Klaassen, Shane Sando, Carrie (and Bo) Sjoberg, Curt (and Christine) Nietfeld, Jessica (and Jake) Byrnes, Danielle Thooft, Ryan Thooft, Andrew Thooft, Jace Sando, Dillan Sando; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Anne Stanke of Mesa, AZ, Audrey Sik of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Anna Seiler, and her husband, Robert Sando, just last year.
