Orville Clifford Hexum, age 84, of Marshall, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the McKennen Hospital in Sioux Falls. Private family services are scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2007. Burial will be in the Hendricks Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home.
Orville was born July 26, 1923 in Hendricks, Minnesota to Oscar and Christine (Hermoe) Hexum. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Hendricks. After graduating from Hendricks High School Orville enlisted in the Army, forgoing deferment and driving to Sioux Falls to ensure that he would be able to serve his country. Honorably discharged, Orville returned from World War II in 1946 where he attained the rank of Seargeant. He went to California where he spent some time doing various things. He married Wanda Hard in California. Then, in 1952, he moved back to Marshall where he married Lucille Berge. He worked for many years in the agriculture industry, where he held a number of supervisory positions. Orville was a member of the VFW in Marshall and he enjoyed spending time with family, coffee, hunting, fishing, and hanging out at Mike’s Café with friends.
Orville is survived by his children, Debra (and Dan) Hart of Reserve, KS, Katherine Russell of Falls City, NE, Gwendolyn (and Pete) Janigian of Weston, FL, and Benjamin (and Jennifer) Hexum of Balaton; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer, Corrin, Amy, Misty, John, Eric, Jeremy, Matthew (serving in the Marines), Rachel, Rebecca, Peter, Leah, Andrew, Devin, and Derek; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Christine; daughter, Christine Lovejoy; granddaughter, Amber Russell; and siblings, Alvin Hexum, Muriel Mortenson, Arden Hexum, Gilmore Hexum, and June Hofstad.
