BALATON - Services for Rick A. Johnson, 64, of rural Balaton will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Living Word Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Hamilton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Rick Anthony Johnson was born June 21, 1950, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Rodney and Berneta (Block) Johnson. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Russell. He graduated from the Russell High School in 1968.
On Oct. 25, 1975, Rick was united in marriage to Marilyn Skolberg. To this union, two children were born, namely, Ryan and Sara. As a licensed plumber and pipefitter, Rick owned his own plumbing and heating business. He was also engaged in farming and worked for Bisbee Plumbing and Heating for a number of years. At the time of his death, Rick was employed by the city of Marshall as a building inspector. Owning and operating Red Line Custom, a gunsmithing business, he worked with his passion, which surrounded shooting sports. Rick was very talented and creative, kind and caring. His love for family, nature, sharing time with friends, being involved in shooting sports, enjoying watching car races and his bond with his Heeler dogs will always be remembered. Every day was a good day by Rick's standards.
Rick was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the United States Practical Shooting Association. As a certified firearms training instructor, he mentored youth to safely enjoy shooting sports.
Those who will dearly miss him are his wife, Marilyn of Balaton; son, Ryan (and Katie) of South Sioux City, Neb.; daughter, Sara (and special friend Matthew VanBuskirk) of Balaton; mother, Berneta of Ethel, Wash.; four grandchildren, Courtney, Jena, Tegan and Zoi Johnson; brother, Joel (and Sue) of Ethel, Wash.; sisters, Peggy (and Dennis) Schenck of Prior Lake and Kathy (and Daryl) Neels of Russell; brother-in-law, Raymond Skolberg of Brownton and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney and brother-in-law, Ted Skolberg.
