Robert Clair Newman was born on August 6, 1947, in Tracy, Minnesota, to parents Clarence and Claudia (Femrite) Newman. He was baptized as an infant in the Amiret Methodist Church and was later confirmed in his youth at the Methodist Church in Marshall. Bob attended school in Marshall, graduating with the class of 1965. He then went on to serve in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Marshall and attended Southwest State University.
On December 6, 1975, Bob was united in marriage to D’Ann Prokasky at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. The couple made their home and farmed near Amiret. They raised 3 children and spent over 44 years of marriage together. Bob retired from farming in 2014, but never stopped working. He spent his retirement helping neighbors and stayed busier than ever in his shop and around the yard.
Bob was a very hard-working man who loved life, loved his family, and cherished his friends dearly. When not spending time on the farm, Bob could be found hunting (especially Elk), fishing on Lobster Lake, or visiting with friends. He often said life is too short, so be sure to have a little fun every day, and he took his own advice to heart. Bob was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Marshall American Legion Post 113, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Robert Newman died in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 24, 2020, surrounded by his family. He had reached the age of 72 years, 6 months, and 18 days. Blessed be his memory.
